So, this just happened.
Okay, so in all honesty, this debate is unlikely to keep us in the EU.
The referendum may not have been legally binding (meaning that the vote did not automatically take Britain out of the EU and that it is still up to the government to trigger Article 50) but ultimately, the government is treading on very dodgy ground if they choose to disobey the will of the people, even if people change their minds.
If anything, I hope this will teach people that democracy is not a game- there is no do-over, so don’t make a protest vote that you don’t believe in.
I’m the first to tell you that governments should be held to account but there are plenty of more effective methods than using the ballot box as a one-finger salute to the government.
